Easter Regatta Mandurah 2011 Entries Coming in Fast

Olympians Coach at Mandurah easter Regatta..

The Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing is proud to announce that during the Mandurah Easter Regatta held on Friday 22nd to Monday 25th April, they have secured the services of WAIS High Level coach and Australian Youth Team Head Coach Belinda Stowell( former Olympic gold medalist). Belinda will be joined by Craig Ferris(former Singapore Olympic coach and Australian olympic sailor) International Coach Susan Ferris and Australian Youth Coach David Mann.

The regatta is significant to the growth of sailing in Western Australia and the Peel region. This prestigious event is the only sanctioned coaching regatta in Western Australia. It provides a unique opportunity for many young sailors to be coached by an elite team of coaches. Coaching is available to all participants on Good Friday from 1200 till 1700 and on the water coaching over the weekend with de-breifings each race day.
This year the Mandurah Easter Regatta will be part of the Australian Youth Sailing Grand Prix. The top youth sailors from around the country will compete in their respective classes..

The Yachting Australia Youth Camp will run from 17th April till the 21st April with 46 sailors and coaches from around Australia participating. This is the first time that the camp has been held outside Queensland and is a great coupe for  Western Australia and the regatta.

A much anticpatedsailing forum is planned for Sunday 24th at 1800hrs . The panel includes Belinda Stowell, Gordon Lucas , Peter Gilmour (former world match racing champion)The talk will cover all aspects of sailing from fitness,nutrition and injuries for the beginners to elite level sailor.

This year we are pleased to announce that Clinton Heal , WA Young Australian of the year will be at the clubon Saturday 23rd April  talking about his personal journey. Clintona skin cancer survivor. At the age of 22, Clinton was diagnosed with Metastatic Melanoma. During the last 4 years he has had over 34 secondary tumors removed from his body. To learn about Clintons journey you are invited to join us from 1700, a gold coin donation would be appreciated upon entry . All proceeds will be donated to MelanomaWA.

This regatta provides a unique training opportunity for all participants. As this regatta in the only Yachting WA sanctioned training regatta in Western Australia. All sailors have access to high profile coachesand this is what attracts so many sailors to this regatta says Kevin Luff Regatta Chairman.

The racing area will be in open water of Comet Bay (indian Ocean) adjacent to the Mandurah Offshore Fishing and Sailing Clubs facilities. The long breakwater provides a exellent viewing platform for spectators and families to view the racing.

The Mandurah Easter Regatta is now in its 6th Year and has grown form 106 yachts to 148 last year. This year competitors are coming from Singapore as well as the east coast of Australia.
This year invited classes include 470,420,29er,49er,Cherub, Contender, Fireball, Flying Ant, Laser Standard, Laser Radial, Laser 4.7, Mirror, Moth, Optimist Gold, Optimist Silver, Tasar, Hibie 16, F16/18, Tornado,RSX and other invited classes. If your class would like to sail at the only sanctioned YWA coaching regatta please express your interest to the MOFSC c/o Rear Commodore Dinghy. A fleet class consist of 6 boats.
