Two Farr 40s, including the provisional race winner, War Games, have been disqualified for breaking the rules of yacht racing in Friday evening's opening heat of the Crown Series Bellerive Regatta.

Although a twilight non-spinnaker race, competition was fierce between the five one-design Farr 40s, with a number of incidents at the start and on the first beat to windward, resulting in three protests being lodged.

The protest committee today disqualified Wayne Banks-Smith's War Games for breaking the port-and-starboard right-of-way rule following a protest by Andrew Hunn's Voodoo Chile. A counter protest by War Games was dismissed.

War Games later won her protest against Wired (Stephen Boyes) resulting from a collision on the starting line, the protest committee ruling that Wired, a windward boat, had failed to keep clear of War Games as required by RRS 11.

As a result of the disqualifications, race one of the Farr 40 division has been awarded to Voodoo Chile, with Euro Central (Hughie Lewis) second and POW (Craig Clifford) third.
