Cowes-Torquay-Cowes deadline fast approaching

'Powerboats in Cowes' Powerboat P1
Powerboat racers looking to compete in one of British offshore racing's most unique, challenging and celebrated events are reminded that the deadline for entry for this years revived CTC race is this Friday.

Entry forms are available to download online from the Powerboat P1 website www.powerboatp1.com. The event will take place on Saturday 23 August, with Sunday 24 August set aside as a reserve day. A shortened Storm Course has also been planned in The Solent if required. The race will use the RB08 Class structure, so all teams that participated in the RB08 are considered eligible and are invited to participate.

The essence of the event is a non-stop race, leaving Cowes, going around a marker buoy in Torquay and getting back to Cowes as quickly as possible. Racers in each class who can achieve this will race for the CTC class prizes, with prizes for first, second and third in each class. Those boats which cannot complete the race non-stop, and who have to have a fuel break in Torquay, will be racing in a second category with their own prizes. Overall prizes for first, second and third will be awarded.

The event will be based out of the Cowes Yacht Haven for dry pits facilities, the Cowes Marina for wet pits and the Yacht Haven building for daytime corporate hospitality and evening festivities. Important information for competing teams will be included in the race bulletin, but important points to note at this stage include:

Presentations are planned to start 1700, followed by an evening party

Teams will receive an exclusive pilot only merchandise pack, various goodies and special souvenir boat plaques
Vouchers will be issued for breakfast, lunch and for food and limited drink at the evening party
Access to breakfast, parties and lunches will be tightly controlled by passes.
A bacon roll breakfast is planned on race day from 0730
Boats will need to be ready by 0915, with a scheduled start time of 1000

The Thundercat fleet is planning to race under its own steam over the full course with a separate safety and fuelling fleet. Any boats not capable of doing the full course will be offered the chance to do a shortened race, running from Cowes - Poole - Cowes

Powerboat P1 Management have provided a further incentive - any teams signing up as a first time entrant in the 2009 P1 World Championship after competing in the 2008 C-T-C event will get their entry fees reimbursed.
