There's an old saying that publicity is good as long as they spell your name correctly.

Well, local newspapers spelt Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show very correctly, but the show did obtain publicity last week it did not need.

Seems a conman struck at John Rapmund, of Boats International, and signed the contact necessary to purchase a $7.8 million Horizon motor yacht.

Problem was the bank he said would provide the necessary finance had never heard of him!

Mr Rapmund was less than impressed.

'Initially the boat carried a 'sold' sign and if we had not unearthed this guy as quickly as we did we could very well have lost sales through the remainder of the show,' he said.

Seems the conman, who used the name 'Cassidy', also ran up some unpaid restaurant bills and taxi fares. Its not known what Mr Cassidy's intentinos were.

That was not the end of sad and sorry boat show tales.

On the Sunday evening the show drew to a close, a group of young people who said they 'worked' at the show took a taxi home to Labrador.

When they arrived at the stated address bad turned to worse, the taxi driver was seriously assaulted, sustaining severe eye injuries and a fractured cheekbone.

This group apparently did not possses really high IQs; the incident was captured on the taxi cab's video camera and next morning their faces were splashed all over page one of the Gold Coast Bulletin.

Sensibly, aware the camera had 'given them up', some of the perpetrators handed themselves into police.

One man is still missing and is believed to have fled to New Zealand to avoid arrest.
