A Cole 34 from South Lake Macquarie Amateur Sailing Club has taken home the silverware in the 2009 Commodores Cup at Sail Port Stephens.

Getaway, owned by Phil Martin, is a regular competitor in his local club's Twilight and Sunday point score, and was absolutely delighted to collect the winner's trophy at last night's prize giving dinner at All Seasons Salamander Shores.

'We've had a really good time over the last three days, and the fact that the regatta is so close to home just makes it so easy to get involved - we're looking forward to coming back again and again' he said.

A Hanse 400 from Sydney Amateur Sailing Club took 2nd prize, followed by Secret Men's Business #1 (SMB#1) from Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club at Pittwater in Sydney's north.

The boys and girls on SMB #1 have led the way in the party stakes since leaving their club on Saturday morning to start the feeder race from Pittwater to Newcastle.

They made sure the rum, beer and wine was given a solid nudge in the new clubhouse of the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club on Saturday night, and then after a rather eventful day on the water in Sunday's race from Newcastle to Port Stephens, more rum was just what the doctor ordered on arrival at d'Albora Marina, Nelson Bay.

Skipper Rob Curtis is looking forward to clocking up a bit of extra sleep on the lay day today - the three days of dancing, drinking Wild Oats Wine and Tooheys New White Stag, (oh and a bit of sailing as well), starting to catch up on him.

There's no action on the water today, with crews taking the opportunity on the lay day to get sails repaired, have a rest, attend the Long Lazy Lunch at Peppers Anchorage, some sight-seeing or just relax before racing hots up tomrorow and the fleet more than triples as the Yachting NSW IRC Championship gets underway and Performance Handicap Division fights it out for the Port Stephens Trophy.

The Melges 24 Nationals Titles also commence tomorrow, with the current Australian sports boat champion Mako Sunglasses ready to take on all contenders.

Since its inception, Sail Port Stephens has had invaluable resource support from Business Port Stephens, an initiative of Port Stephens Council, and the inaugural group of Foundation Partners in Nelson Bay Diggers, All Seasons Salamander Shores, Peppers Anchorage and Shoal Bay Resort and Spa have, even in tough economic times, all continued to believe in the long term vision for the regatta and what it brings to the region.

International sailing clothing brand, SLAM, continue their support as the Official Clothing supplier, and d'Albora Marina are a great partner with their on-site support and special deals for regatta participants.

Newcomers to the Supporting Partner group for 2009 include Wild Oats Wines as the Official Wine Partner of the Regatta and Tooheys New White Stag - full strength low carb beer, as the Official Beer of the event.
International Paints are also participating in this year's event, through the International Paints Magic Moment of the Day - a daily award for outstanding achievement and human feats -good or bad during racing.
