The Dubai International Marine Club (DIMC) and the International Offshore Team Association (IOTA) have confirmed a new commercial partnership, announcing 'Sea Dubai' as a Platinum Partner of the 2009 UIM-WPPA Class 1 World Powerboat Championship.
Class 1's newest commercial initiative was revealed at today's press conference at the 17th Dubai International Boat Show, chaired by Mina Seyahi Chief Executive Officer, Saeed Hareb, IOTA General Secretary, Marco Sala and WPPA General Secretary, Sid Bensalah. 'This exciting initiative with the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship will highlight to a truly global audience the significance of the Emirate of Dubai as a major destination for international watersports,' said Hareb. 'Our main objective is to enhance the brand and status of 'Sea Dubai' in the international sporting arena and to demonstrate the genuine commitment of the United Arab Emirates in promoting a diversity of marine sports. Furthermore, to achieve our goals we felt that Class 1 was our best partner. We have a longstanding association with the sport and consider Class 1 to be the leading series in World powerboat racing. It also reflects our continued support and backing of the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship.'
Launched in 2008, Sea Dubai has received acclaim for its promotion of the RC 44 Championship and moreover its success to promote Dubai as the 'City of Watersports', and the concept of creating the brand 'Sea Dubai' have earned the DIMC the accolade of becoming internationally accepted as the 'Home of Watersports'.
As the Class 1 World Powerboat Championship prepares for its season opener in Doha, Qatar, on 25 April - the first of eight races across southern Europe, Scandinavia and the Middle East, IOTA General Secretary, Marco Sala, expressed his delight at the timely announcement of this new partnership. 'This partnership has come at an opportune time for everyone involved in Class 1. It emphasises the region's importance in supporting IOTA and the key role it plays in promoting the Championship, and we consider Dubai as a highly valued Patron of our sport,' said Marco Sala. 'The agreement also demonstrates extended support to the World Professional Powerboating Association to continue its successful association with our sport. And I believe that the presence of 'Sea Dubai' as our Platinum partner will encourage other international brands and business groups to offer their support to our Championship.'
