Changes at Grow Boating

Grow Boating, the boating industry's marketing and promotional arm, is to undergo major changes with the appointment of three new directors.

David Heyes (BRP Australia), George Bolton (BIA SA) and Gordon Howlett (BIA Victoria) are to be added to the board.

Earlier, industry leaders headed by Australian Marine Industries Federation (AMIF) president Mr Barry Jenkins and president of the Boating Industry Association of NSW Mr Doug Olding had expressed dissatisfaction with the progress of Grow Boating.

They advised the board of Grow Boating that its shareholders, the State industry associations, had agreed to appoint the new board members to assist with further promotional and marketing objectives.

Current Grow Boating chairman, Mr Paul Phelan, was said to have had 'reservations' regarding the proposed changes, but the shareholders' representatives assured him that the commitment to Grow Boating remained strong.

'Although sales at Australian boat shows have been strong, focused promotional activities are crucial to the recreational boating industry at this time,' Mr Olding declared.

Mr Jenkins agreed and added that it was of 'vital importance' that all industry associations are seen to be presenting a united front.

'Our primary aim is to deliver positive outcomes for all of our members and supporters,' he added.
