Cadet World Championships - Australians Alec and Sam Bailey lead

Young Tasmanians Alec and Sam Bailey have taken the overall lead at the International Cadet World Championships being sailed on the River Plate at Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Alec (15), a Hutchins School student and his 12 year old sister Sam, a Fahan student, were runners-up in the 2008 Australian Championships and are one of five Australian crews contesting the Worlds.

After winning race 7, the first Australian crew to win a race heat at a Cadet World Championship regatta since 2005,
they finished second in race 8, behind the British crew of William Kennedy and Rhos Hawes. Yesterday's overall leaders, Argentinians Clara Cosentino and Cristobal Billoch were third.

Alec and Sam Bailey are now three points clear of Clara Cosentino and Cristobal Billoch. Arthur Henderson and Matthew Currell from Great Britain lie a further four points back.

Ian Lee and Alex Brzoska, from the Royal Geelong Yacht Club are currently next Australians, placed in 10th position overall.
