Navico has released the world's first recreational marine Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radome across three of its brands - Lowrance, Northstar and Simrad for each of those diverse markets.

Hailed as 'the greatest breakthrough in radar since 1940', the BR24 Broadband Radar represents the next generation of radar safety, affordability and ease of use and will be the company's main attraction at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show in May.

According to Damien Weber, Director Sales & Marketing at Navico, the company has 'high expectations' of the product range and from feedback so far following launches in the US and Europe, response has been positive.

'It has already won an award for innovation in Miami, and at media and consumer testing, its performance has been rated as excellent,' said Weber, identifying the main attributes of the product as 'superior target definition, very low emissions, no loss of picture'.

'It's easily mounted anywhere, so boat owners taking guests out on a boat need not worry about positioning it far away from people. It also has great ability in close range. The objects it can pick up, like a kayak or mooring pole, are a vast improvement on the radars of the past. And there's no tuning required. Just turn it on and away you go.'

Delivering highly-detailed intuitive views of surroundings, the new radome transmits at 1/20,000 the power of traditional radar - emitting less than 1/10th the energy of a mobile phone.
