Brisbane to Keppel Race showcases new technology
Organisers of the Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race today announced new ways for spectators to follow the race. Yachts competing in the race will be able to send short mobile updates to the race committee which will appear on the race website within minutes.
'SMS - Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race'
'This will give a chance for yachts to quickly fire off an update of their progress to the public when they come within mobile range,' said race organiser Suellen Hurling. 'It can often be hard for spectators to get a true idea of the events happening during the race, and this will make the gap between the sailors and spectators even smaller.'
The race organisers will also be providing updates through not only media releases on the race website, but will also be sending out a number of scheduled SMS updates during the race. The free service allows spectators to receive up to date SMS updates to their mobile phone at no cost. 'Not everyone has time to refresh the race website every 5 minutes for updates, SMS updates allow spectators to follow the race through their mobile phones.' said Suellen Hurling.
