BlackMatch Racing reports from the third day of the Korea Match Racing Cup:

Hi all from BlackMatch during the quarter final stage of Korea Match:

Today was the end of the first round robin for all of the teams and it saw World #2 Mathieu Richard climb up the rankings to qualify first with 9 wins 2 losses, leaving us tied in second with a scorecard of 8 wins and 3 losses. Also on 8 wins were: Jesper Radich and Sebastian Col, followed by Torvar Mirsky and Ian Williams on 7 wins, Bjorn Hansen on 6 wins and rounding out the top eight was Paolo Cian on 5 wins. The exclusion of World Match Racing Tour veterans Magnus Holmberg and Peter Gilmour who could only manage 2 and 3 wins respectively, was perhaps the biggest surprise of the day, with the younger crews managing to out perform the more experienced teams.

As Mathieu qualified top of the table, it was his choice who he would race in the best of three quarter final, he chose us which was a little surprising as we had totally dominated him during the round robin, winning by a good margin and also forcing a penalty on him.

Although there is a long way to go in this regatta, the French team may be rueing their choice as we managed to take out the first race of the quarterfinals before a thick fog came through in the evening, leaving the remainder of the quarterfinal to be raced tomorrow.

At 1-0 up, we remain philosophical about our chances of qualifying for the semi final, although we are only 1 win away from progressing through, we are facing arguably one of the toughest competitors in the game and we are looking forward to the challenge tomorrow. For anybody following the racing back home in New Zealand there will live coverage on Sky Sports between 5pm and 7pm, the perfect curtain raiser to the All Blacks game at 7.30pm. (SW: Don't think this is correct - we can't see it in Sky TV's programming).
