5:06 AM Mon 17 Nov 2008 GMT The Barrie Beehag Ski Race will be conducted on Saturday 22nd November on the Murray River between Deep Creek Marina and Torrumbarry Weir.
The event in its third year is conducted by Moama Water Sports Club, has attracted a full field of 110 entries, competing in eight classes over the day.
The Murray River will be closed to the public from 7.30am to 5pm from Fraser Road Boat Ramp to Torrumbarry Weir.
Briefing for the team members will take place at Deep Creek Marina at 8am. The boats will launch at Deep Creek Marina for the start at approximately 10am.
Last years winner Hellbent will be the first to leave. Can Hellbent with driver Mark Cranny, observer Damien Matthews and skiers Peter Proctor & Paul Robertson win the event for the third year in a row? Moama Water Sports Club President, Alan McDonald said 'His personal favourite to win; would be Chief towing Jamie Oliver and Daniel Shipp, but their luck has not been with them so far this season. Hellbent certainly would have to be the crowd favourite to win.'
Leaving one minute apart, all the 110 boats will travel to Torrumbarry Weir. Once all the boats have been accounted for at Torrumbarry - the boats will start the return to Deep Creek Marina. Can the record time of 23:23 minutes be broken?
There are many places along the river to watch all the action on the Victorian side of the river, including Bail road, Headworks road or from the Torrumbarry Weir road. It is a perfect opportunity to take the family out for a picnic on the beautiful Murray River. At Torrumbarry Weir, the Gunbower Lions Club will be providing food and refreshments for competitors and spectators.
On the NSW side, Deep Creek Marina is the place to be. Entry to the Deep Creek Marina area will be by $2 per person or $5 per family. Food and drinks will be available onsite, with catering by the Echuca Apex Club. Activities for the kids at Deep Creek Marina include show bags, face painting and a jumping castle
Race programs will be available from Monday 17th November from any of the Echuca and Moama Newsagency's.
