Winds gusting to 30 knots this afternoon caused the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania race officer to abandon the scheduled opening heats for the B14 skiff class on Hobart's Derwent River.

The wind consistently was over 20 knots and class rules for the scaled-own 18-foot skiff do not allow racing in winds of over 30 knots.

Fifty boats, including 11 from the UK, are contesting the Worlds, with race officials confident they will be able to catch up extra races on subsequent days.
