Australian marine exporters were recognised as providers of quality products and services at last week's IBEX trade show in Miami, despite the subdued global economic environment.

The Australian International Marine Export Group (AIMEX) led a group of Australian companies to the International Boat Builders' Exhibition and Conference staged October 6-8.

AIMEX Chief Executive MaryAnne Edwards said that while visitor numbers were down at the Show, there were still positive outcomes for the Australian marine exporters.

"Several US distributors confirmed there is a continuing demand for Australian products," said Ms Edwards. "And the current Australian dollar value makes our products extremely competitive on the global market."

AIMEX member Aqualuma Underwater Lighting picked up three new REM boat manufacturer customers at IBEX.

Director Carl Amor said while the Show was considerably slower than last year with lower attendances, Aqualuma did some very good business with people who were there.

Isoflex's Cam Ewart confirmed the company also achieved its goals at the US trade show.

MultiPanel CEO Tony Russo said that IBEX was again very important to the company.

"Although numbers were down, we were able to spend a comfortable amount of time with interested clients. We spoke to several dozen companies who showed a high level of interest in MultiPanel," said Mr Russo.

"Viking Yachts stopped by the stand - I visited their facility in New Jersey which was very impressive. Through our importing agents and distributors, Multipanel expects a good relationship with Viking Yachts. "

Bob Young and Richard Chapman represented Coursemaster Autopilots and HyDrive Engineering at the Show. They met their US sales representatives and a number of potential new distributors. They took the opportunity of introducing the new CM82i autopilot which received a positive response.

Other AIMEX members participating at IBEX included Austral Propellers, Evrsafe Marine Technology, FGI, GME, Marina Protection Systems Pty Ltd, Panelec, Poly Flex Australia, Ronstan International, Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show and Veem Propellers.

Ms Edwards said a number of US distributors were keen to look at visiting one of the leading Australian boat shows.

Hugh Carroll of Thermo Boat Ltd, a preferred supplier to a number of Australian exporters, commented that Australian products he represents are high quality and technologically advanced compared to many other similar products in the marketplace.

Herb Jarrett of Treasure Coast Propellers is a distributor for Veem Propellers in the US. Mr Jarrett described the Veem Interceptor as the: "finest and most accurate propeller in the world."

"The propeller is extremely efficient and with the current high fuel pricing, this efficiency can provide an additional 8 - 10 % better fuel usage," he said.

AIMEX is a peak industry private sector group representing Australian marine exporters. AIMEX members encompass a huge range of marine products and services with manufacturers, designers, consultants, service providers and boat show organisers.

AIMEX will have a large pavilion at METS in Amsterdam, 18-20 November.
