It's been a day out for the Internationals at the Australian Laser Championships with wins and places across the board. Race 1 began on schedule at 1330 drenched in sunshine and accompanied by steady 8-10 knot winds. Malaysian pair Romzi Mohd Mohamed and Khairulnizam Mohd Afendy went 1-2 with Singapore's Seng Leong Koh placing equal 3rd with Australian Apprentice Danny Fuller in Radial Qualifying.
In 4.7 Class, Frenchman Laszlo Horvath took out Race 1 with Singapore's Terence Jianjie Choo and New South Wales' Keats Thomson rounding out the places.
In Full Rig, the pre-Regatta tip of a battle royale between Tom Slingsby and defending Full Rig champion Ashley Brunning lived up to expectations with Slingsby claiming Race 1 ahead of Swiss Christoph Bottoni and Brunning in third.
Race 2 of Radial Qualifying fared better for the Aussies with Tasmanian Elliot Noye claiming the race ahead of Laura Baldwin of New South Wales and Seng Leong Koh who scored Singapore another placing.
In the 4.7 Class, Laszlo Horvath (FRA) made it two from two followed by Victorian Stephen Collings and Queensland bolter Daniel Smith who placed third.
In Full Rig, Tom Slingsby asserted his dominance with win number two for the day followed by rival Ashley Brunning in second and New South Wales' Tom Burton in third.
After a day of hot competition, the Nationals will be greeted with hot and dry conditions on Day 3 with a forecast temperature of 39 degrees. Winds are expected to be light North Easterlies at best extending into a moderate evening sea breeze. Races 3-6 will be held tomorrow with the first warning signal again scheduled for 1330.
