Andrew Short Marine-Shockwave 5 reaches Lord Howe

Andrew Short's recently acquired international maxi yacht Andrew Short Marine-Shockwave 5, the early Alfa Romeo has taken line honours in the 35th Gosford - Lord Howe Island Yacht Race.

The 80-footer crossed the line off the island's coral lagoon at 07:42:35 this morning in a light ENE breeze, giving her an elapsed time of 42 hours 42 minutes 25 seconds, well outside the race record.

At this stage three yachts have a strong chance of beating her on IRC corrected time, Patrice Six which must finish before about 11.30 tonight, Occasional Coarse Language which must finish by about 11.50 tonight and the 50-year-old yawl Sanyo Maris which has until about 4pm tomorrow and is less than 150 nautical miles from the finish.
