'Alinghi 5: Emerging from the shed' Bruno Cocozza@Alinghi

With the lack of Mutual Consent in the current edition of the America's Cup between Alinghi and BMW Oracle Racing, there are no rules regarding espionage activities between teams, or indeed what the public can see.

Sail-World is happy to run legally obtained images of either BMW Oracle Racing or Alinghi. Please send all material to nzeditor@sail-world.com or email us with a website URL. Please also let us know whether or not you are happy to be identified as the photographer. We will also include a link to your website if you wish.

Enjoy!

As the assembly shed was dismantled Alinghi published several images on their website. The following are close ups from those images (expand to see full screen shots:)

Alinghi 5: closer view showing prodder and strut arrangement. Note the depth of the forward dolphin striker.

Two years to the day on which they successfilly defended the America's Cup, Alinghi unveilled their Deed of Gift monster. Sail-World wasn't part of the select media group invited to the building tent. Camera use was banned by those who were there, but even so these shots sneaked out:

The Alinghi building comes down, in Villeneuve, with Alinghi 5 seeing the first light of day. The ends of the catamaran can be seen, without the distortion of a wide angle lens.

Alinghi 5 showing the starboard hull and bow against the wall. the plastic wrap on the centre prodder is obviously so the media didn't hit their heads, not that there is anything they didn't want you to see on the end fitting.

Alinghi 5 - some idea of the size of the yacht can be guaged by the builder walking long the main beam.

Alinghi 5 - some idea of the size of the yacht can be guaged by the builder walking long the main beam. Media were told that Alinghi 5 will have 20-25 crew - but that is more than double that carried in a VOR70, and about the same as a supermaxi of the same size, and four times that used on Le Black at 41ft (just under half the size of Alinghi 5). - Vicarage Photography Click Here to view large photo
