A small group of AIMEX members attended the Barcelona Boat Show, 8-16 November, and while numbers were down, the quality of visitors was high and prospects are positive.

CEO MA Edwards confirms that this show followed the trend of others held recently where visitor numbers were down significantly. 'It appeared that comments from other shows stating visitor numbers were down but the quality of those who did attend was good was also true of this show,' she said.

As part of the visit, AIMEX arranged a site tour to MB 92 Barcelona one of the best Superyacht repair, refit and maintenance yards in the world. The companies with AIMEX were extremely impressed by this facility covering 36,000 m2. the site tour was followed by a presentation from the facilities technical and production managers.

AIMEX also hosted a cocktail function at the show with Austrade and the local Riviera dealer Eric Zoebels. Eric reported considerable interest in the Riviera product and early in the show had already sold several boats.

The purpose of the function was to showcase Australian marine equipment and services to local Spanish businesses. MA Edwards said it was important to reinforce at every opportunity the Australian brand of innovation, quality and excellence to international markets.
