Wednesday Day 4 at the 26th annual Hamilton Island Race Week.
Yesterday it was 34 degrees in Brisbane and 37 degrees in parts of inland Queensland, setting new mid-winter records.
The south east trade winds are very much absent this year at Hamilton Island's Race Week. So far it's the lightest wind regatta that anyone can remember in those last 26 years, according to Regatta Director Denis Thompson.
After the excitement of yesterday's Audi Drive challenge in the $280,000 RS 6 Sedan , today has been a definite downer.
It is heavily overcast here on Hamilton Island, around 6/8 cloud and currently there is a three to four knot south easterly, so it's the coolest day in more than a week but still humid.
The 194 boat fleet has been held ashore, as the wind is not only very light but is patchy and unstable to boot.
The only winners so far have been the winners have been the cafes and soon the restaurants and we suspect not too much later the bars.
If the latest Bureau forecast is correct, the seabreeze might deliver 6-8 knot winds around 3pm, but that will likely be too late to salvage a days racing.
Tomorrow morning service is likely to be resumed with trade winds arriving around 8am - 12 knots from the south east.
We will provide updates on developments as we listen for signal from the race office next door.
