11:11 AM Wed 6 May 2009 GMT The Club Marine Brisbane to Keppel Tropical Yacht Race is on again with the start gun firing on Saturday 1st August at 1100 hours. Starting on the waters of Moreton Bay, the race is organised and conducted by the Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron.
Now in its third year, the 348 nautical mile race is fast becoming one of the major races up the Queensland tropical coast. The race is the perfect passage for those planning on racing at both Airlie Beach and Hamilton Island Race Week.
In 2007 the event attracted 17 entries. There were 25 entries received in 2008 and event organisers are hopeful that up to 40 yachts will make the decision to race to glorious Keppel Bay.
Principal Race Officer Denis Thompson is confident the Victorian and New South Wales yachts will take the plunge to enter the Queensland event.
'I've heard whispers from a few high profile yacht owners that they plan on racing this year, so hopefully we see those entries come in,' said Thompson.
The 2008 Line Honours and IRC winner Black Jack will be back for this year's race aiming to beat their record time set last year.
Club Marine is again the naming sponsor for this years race and the team at Keppel Bay Marina are enthusiastic to welcome the yachts as they cross the finishing line.
