The Notice of Race for the 2009 Audi IRC Australian Championship has been published. This championship is a point score based on IRC results of the 2009 Skandia Geelong Week, Audi Sydney Harbour Regatta, Audi Sydney Goldcoast Yacht Race and the Audi Hamilton Island Race Week events.

No seperate entry or fee is required, all yachts that enter an IRC division of any of these events will be automatically included in the point score.

The point score will determine the Audi IRC Australian Champion. The IRC divisions at each of the four events are highly competitive and the series rewards consistent winners, which is a tough ask from four events that cross Australia through out the year. The variety of course types, weather conditions and divisional splits are tough enough. But to mix this with the sheer demands of a long campaign from Geelong to Hamilton Island, it quickly filters out the genuine champion sailors from the rest of the fleet.

The point score is managed by Yachting Australia with the assistance of the each event's Organising Authority. Results are compiled into a scoring spreadsheet that calculates championship points based on each boat's divisional place and the number of competitors in that division.

The 2008 Audi IRC Australian Championship was an exciting affair with the tight finish between Bob Steele's TP52 Quest and Peter Sorenson's Sydney 36CR Philosopher's Club not being decided until the last race of the Audi Hamilton Island Race Week. Peter Sorenson took out the title by fractions of a point.

To get involved start by having your boat IRC rated and entering Skandia Geelong Week today.
