2:24 AM Fri 1 May 2009 GMT Bob Steel the owner of the 2008 Rolex Sydney Hobart winner Quest is being protested over an IRC certificate issue.
Steel has today issued this statement.
'I have been advised of a Protest Hearing involving my yacht 'Quest' scheduled to be dealt with next Friday at the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia.
'The protest is invalid and out of time, seeking to rely upon an error made by the YA (IRC) measurer when he measured my boat.
'Neither I nor anyone else involved with my boat had any knowledge of the error until weeks after the race had been concluded.
'As soon as we became aware of it, it was promptly reported to the authorities and rectified. The matter has already been fully investigated and the important thing to recognise is that even if my boat had been rated using the correct measurements, I would still have won the race by a comfortable margin.
'I am confident that the Protest will be dismissed and the official results will remain unaltered. There is no further comment that I wish to make at this time, except to confirm that I have been involved in yacht-racing for more than 30 years and I would never involve myself in anything that was under hand or unsportsmanlike.'
