Windybank's Fishing club Clean Up day Success
Clean-up for Cowan Creek and Hawkesbury River
Local boat ramps, picnic areas and footpaths around the Hawkesbury River and Cowan Creek were given a thorough clean-up this weekend thanks to the efforts of local fishermen.
More than 20 members of the Windybanks, Hornsby and Kuring Gai and Galston and Glenorie fishing spent their Sunday morning removing rubbish from the Bobbin Head, Parsley Bay boat ramps and nearby areas.
The day started at 6am with a BBQ breakfast at Windybanks Bait and Tackle in Mount Colah. Volunteers were then split into groups and dispatched to the three designated clean-up areas.
Windybanks Fishing Club vice president, and event organiser, David Steele was pleased with the results of what is planned to be a regular event.
"We have some of the most outstanding waterways on our doorstep which are enjoyed by families as well the boating community and fishermen. We'd like to play our part in maintaining their appeal for everyone.
"It was pretty bleak first thing Sunday - the first heavy rain in months - however there was an excellent turnout. It was a very successful exercise and we ended up filing more than 30 sacks with rubbish." Steele said.
An estimated total of 3 cubic meters of rubbish was removed Sunday afternoon by S&G Waste.
The rubbish removed included everything from plastic bags and bottles to used syringes and rusty knife blades.
