Wear a life jacket. No really. Wear It

See what it's like to drown...
How many times have you heard (or said it yourself) “Ah, I don’t need a life jacket! I can swim, and besides, it’s calm today.” Chances are at least once in your life, but after playing this little game, we’re willing to bet you will think at least twice before stepping onto a watercraft without some floatation.

It’s a drowning simulator, made by a guy called Guy Cotton and it’s very very good. A POV (point of view) style dramatization, it shows you just how long you might have in the water without a life jacket. Now we hear you saying “Why on earth would I want to try a drowning simulator?” We thought the same, after all drowning isn’t the most entertaining thing to watch on a Friday night. But put aside your doubts, this one’s worth it.

Before you do so though, here’s a few facts about drowning to get you in the mood.

-Most drowning victims had a life jacket available and chose not to wear it.
-An Adult can drown in as little as 60 seconds, for children it’s more like 20.
-Over 80% of drownings relating to marine accidents involve people who weren’t wearing a life jacket.
-Choppy water significantly reduces the time you can tread water for.
-The world record for treading water is 85 hours. Good luck getting even close to that unless you’re a 19 year old Indian guy (and if you do happen to be a 19 year old Indian, we don’t recommend you try it)

Check out the simulator, and next time you step aboard a boat of any kind, don’t be silly, put a life jacket on.
