Victorian fisherman nets some legal problems

A Rye man is facing up to six months in jail or a fine of $10,000 after allegedly being caught with commercial fishing equipment and exceeding the catch limit at Tootgarook. Fisheries Officers say the 66-year-old was intercepted on back streets of Tootgarook after having just retrieved his vessel from the nearby boat ramp. They found a large fish trap in the cabin area of the vessel. The trap was allegedly set from the vessel into shallow waters of Port Phillip Bay, near Tootgarook and had caught 40 Red Mullet.
