Modelled on the successful road-based fundraising event the Variety Bash, this year's Splash raised in excess of $130,000 for Special Needs Children. The three-day event attracted a fleet of over 20 power and sail boats and took participants on a round trip from Docklands via Mornington and Geelong - incorporating social functions and plenty of fun along the way.
Variety, the children's charity CEO Norm Hutton said he was thrilled with the way the Splash was embraced and was confident the event would continue to grow.
'I was just blown away by the generosity during the inaugural event. the boating community and event sponsors really embraced the heart of Variety,' Mr Hutton said.
'The funds raised during last summer's Splash purchased Dynavox communication devices, mobility equipment and Second Skin Splints to help improve the lives of many Victorian children.
'We have plenty more surprises in store for the 2009 Variety Splash and we're hoping for an even bigger fleet and to raise even more funds for the children.'
Details of the 2009 Variety Splash will be announced at the official event launch at Beaumaris Yacht Squadron on Wednesday 28 May, from 6.30pm.
