A 41- year old Melbourne water skier has died after he crashed during the Southern 80 water skiing competition on the Murray River on the New South Wales-Victorian border.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said paramedics were called to the Southern 80 water ski race on the Murray River, between Torrumbarry and Echuca, about 4pm (AEDT) Saturday after two skiers had collided.
The spokesman said the 41-year-old man suffered a cardiac arrest. A nurse watching the event went to the skiers aid and performed CPR but he could not be revived.
A second male skier suffered a dislocated shoulder and was airlifted to Bendigo Hospital.
A NSW police spokesperson said police were investigating the incident and a report would be prepared for the coroner, the spokesperson said.

There was an incident on the Murray River today, during the running of the 2010 Club Marine Southern 80. One skier has died and another skier was also injured at the scene and has been transported to hospital.
'The skier was competing in the Presidents Invitational and at this stage it is not know what has happened. The incident is under investigation by NSW Police and Waterways NSW.
Competition in the 2010 Club Marine Southern 80 event resumed on Sunday after spectators and racers marked the competitor's death with a minute's silence.
The Southern 80 water ski race is held by the Moama Water Sports Club from February 12-14.
The event which as been running for more than 40 years takes place on the Murray River from Torrumbarry to Echuca, where there are more than 120 bends in the river. The race attracts entries from all over Australia, plus international competitors from New Zealand, Great Britain and the US
