1:19 AM Mon 25 May 2009 GMT What a difference a year makes! In May last year, Wes Moxey stated that the company was 'not considering and would never consider manufacturing offshore'. A few days ago at Sanctuary Cove Boat Show, Australia's largest luxury boat builder, Riviera, announced a completely new range of massive boats which are to be built by a specialist yard in Taiwan under the name 'Riviera Motor Yachts'.
Ranging in size from 73 to 85 feet, the new models will be the epitome of luxury for a few discerning owners.
Riviera 73, 78 and 85 Motor Yachts extend the range of options for dedicated Riviera owners close to superyacht dimensions.
The new range will be built at a specialist yard in Taiwan under strict Riviera supervision. The yard's senior management, led by a naval architect, each has more than 25 years of experience in boat building. They have previously worked with such names as Marlow, Hargrave and Horizon Yachts and currently produce the range of New Ocean Yachts.
'These beautiful new boats are designed by our New Product Development team at Riviera's Coomera headquarters,' said Riviera CEO John Anderson.
'Every element of the specification and layout is controlled by our in-house team. Just as our magnificent Riviera 70 drew on all of the company's experience and research among our long-time owners, so the new Motor Yacht range draws on our experience and accumulated knowledge of nearly 30 years and more than 4,500 boats built.
Anderson said Taiwan boat yards had earned a worldwide reputation for build quality.
'All construction will be closely supervised by Riviera's own engineers and boat builders,' he said.
'The Riviera design studio team is second to none in luxury boat design. Together they draw on experience not only in developing the flagship Riviera 70, but have worked with Azzura, with Sunseeker in the UK and with Austal building superyachts.'
From the large enclosed flybridge, with its interior and exterior lounge areas, to the accommodation space offering a minimum of four cabins and three or four bathrooms plus crew quarters, these Riviera's set a new standard in luxury for long-distance cruising, relaxing at anchor in a secluded bay or at a marina.
The massive saloons encompass a lounge area, generous U-shape galley amidships and a separate dining area.
Owners have a wide range of options including a garage housing a tender or space on the flybridge deck to store their tender or other water toys. With the garage option, the flybridge exterior can be a large entertaining area with lounges, tables and bar fridges.
Standard inclusions on the 73 and 78 Motor Yachts include air-conditioning throughout, a fully enclosed Sky Lounge, comprehensive audio-visual systems (from a 50-inch digital system in the main saloon and another in the Sky Lounge to TV/DVD systems in all cabins). The 85 MY standard inclusions encompass four cabins including a full-beam master stateroom with full-beam bathroom equipped with shower and bath and dual basins and toilets plus twin walk-in robes, the enclosed Sky Lounge, tender garage and hydraulic swim platform, hydraulic bow and stern thrusters and windlass
Engine options will give owners a wide range of boating lifestyles, from long-range cruising of more that 1,500 nautical miles to planing speeds around 24 knots.
