Champions from the world of powerboat racing will converged on the De Vere Royal Bath Hotel in Bournemouth, UK on Saturday 06 February 2010 for the RYA National Champions gala dinner, to celebrate the national and international successes of the 2009 season.
Hosted by one of the United Kingdom's leading offshore powerboat racers and top female powerboat racer in the world, Shelley Jory and the RYA's Powerboat Racing Manager John Puddifoot, some 60 awards will be up for grabs.
Presenting this year's awards will be Sir Robin Knox-Johnston CBE. Best known as a sailing legend he is also a lesser known power boat racer having teamed up with Shelley Jory back in August 2009 for his first powerboat racing experience.
As navigator for Team Scorpion, Sir Robin embarked on one of the longest and toughest one-day endurance powerboat race in the world, the Cowes-Torquay-Cowes, coming in a respectable fourth place.
John Puddifoot, RYA Powerboat Racing Manager said: 'These awards are our way of recognising the phenomenal racing talent that exists in the UK, in fact UK racers currently hold nine World and 52 National championship titles, as well as eight national world records and two world records.
'We are delighted to welcome Sir Robin to this year awards ceremony and hope that he will perhaps get involved in some more power boating events in the future.'
