More than 100 local and overseas anglers will participate in the Riviera Fiji sponsored-Fiji Islands Classic Game Fishing tournament next month.

The inaugural week long event which is offering a total of $15,000 worth of prizes and trophies is being hosted by the Denarau Game and Sports Fishing Club in Nadi.

Tournament co-ordinator Craig McElrath said a strong team from the Sunshine Coast in Australia had confirmed its entry.

McElrath said the local contenders should confirm their participation in the next few days. 'We have had good response from overseas,' McElrath said.

'We expect the local participants from as far as Savusavu and Suva. The tournament offers offshore sport fishers almost a week to experience the rush of screaming reels and bent rods. We expect to attract at least 20 vessels with some 100 local and international anglers.'
