Some might view Australia's two major boat shows, the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show and the Sydney International Boat Show as, well, arch rivals.

Actually such a view is way off beam.

Phil Shaw, events director for the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show and the man largely responsible for the somewhat daunting task of supervising the complicated exhibitor move-in, move-out operations, has some additional assistance.

Belinda Close, event manager for the Sydney International Boat Show arrived on the Gold Coast late in Sunday to link up with Phil Shaw for what has been termed an 'exchange of experience.'

Kate Duryea, media consultant to the Sanctuary Cove exhibition, said Belinda will see a 'very different set up of operations' at Sanctuary Cove when compared with the Sydney International.

The two shows, of course, are operated by two totally separate bodies; the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show is owned and operated by Sanctuary Cove, whereas the Sydney International Boat Show is organised by the Boating Industry Association of NSW on behalf of its members.

Domenic Genua, the association's marketing and event manager and a key man for many years behind the Sydney show, dismissed any thoughts of 'rivalries.'

'Let's face it, Sanctuary Cove and the Sydney International Boat Shows both operate with one major thought uppermost, the promotion of the Australian recreational boating industry,' he declared.

'We know Phil Shaw well from his involvement in Sydney with Riviera in past years and we're confident he and Belinda will form a good working relationship that will benefit both boat shows'.
