Class 1 World Powerboat Championship - Spanish Team, Duemme Broker, has confirmed that Ahmad Al Hameli will make his Class 1 debut in the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, 19-21 November.
Hameli, 30, who was born and lives in Abu Dhabi, has competed in wooden powerboat racing, Class 3, 6 litre, the F2000 Presidents Cup and now races for the Abu Dhabi F1 Powerboat Team, will partner the experienced Italian throttleman, Giovanni Carpitella, in the V8 Mercury-powered C.A.M.
Carpitella, who finished fourth in the season-opener in Qatar and fifth in both races in the Italian Grand Prix - his only starts this season - will draw on his vast powerboat experience to guide Al Hameli on his debut in front of the U.A.E National's home crowd. 'My target will be to make sure we finish with good points in Abu Dhabi and to look to end the season in the top three in the Middle East Championship.'
Carpitella, with 20 starts in Class 1, made his racing debut in 1991 and his Class 1 debut in 2002. A regular competitor in the Middle East Class 3, 6 litre Championship, he was runner-up in the Class 3 World Championships in 1998 and 2000, winning the Middle East title in 2001 and 2005, having previously won the European Championship in 1998 and again in 2000. He won the American APBA world title in 2003, has competed in ProVee and P1, finishing second in the Evolution Class in 2005 and 2007, winning the title this year. He is the holder of the Class 3, 6-litre world speed record and won the 2008 XCAT series.
