Why every girl should kiteboard - Tips for Girls

Hannah Whitely kites better than most guys we know...
This week it would seem that kiteboarding is all about the girls. Not because it’s womens week or anything logical like that, just because there’s all of a sudden been an influx of media surrounding the fairer sex and our sport of kiteboarding.

By ‘our’, I don’t mean ‘us blokes’, although it’s a resounding fact that most kiteboarders are most definitely men. That’s changing, and the change is coming fast. Not because men are giving up, not because the sport is getting easier, and certainly not because kiteboarding companies are making pink kites.

We think it has a lot to do with attitude. Girls CAN kiteboard, and they’re pretty darn good at it in many cases. Gear is all getting safer, friendlier to use and yes, comes in pink. There’s also the accepted practice that girls should not be taught by their spouse/boyfriend/love-interest or that guy who’s been stuck in the friend zone for years.

So if you know a girl, or even better; you ARE a girl who’s thinking about getting into the sport of kiteboarding, Eveline Rijksen from Kitepower Australia has some tips for you… We’ve picked three of the best ones and reproduced them below, or you can read the full article here.

Girly Kiteboarding Tip 1: As tempting as it may be, do NOT take your first lessons from your kitesurfer boyfriend, hubbie or relative. Believe me - it’s better for your health and relationship status!

Girly Kiteboarding Tip 2: Get your own harness! A harness should not act as a sports bra, it shouldn’t even be in that general area. It should fit tight and snug in the small of your waist. Definitely have a look at the girls harnesses that are around, they fit differently (and better) than the boy ones.

Girly Kiteboarding Tip 3: Find other girls to ride with. There are more and more girls getting into this sport. Find them, talk to them, get their phone numbers, make facebook friends – they will be the ones who get you out and push you forward.
