Who said WA is full of kiteboarding tourists and show offs?

Tourist or Local? Yes that's a guy up there...
WA is the hottest kiteboarding location in the world during the months of December - January. Sometimes quite literally with temperatures reaching 45 degrees in summer, but nobody complains. When it gets this hot, it also gets windy. Wind, waves and warm water generally makes a good recipe for cultivating kite boarders; and they don't just breed on the shorelines of the Perth metro beaches anymore - they come in droves from overseas to sample what the otherwise barren WA coast has to offer.
While the locals get mad, and the tourists remain blissfully unaware of their wrong doings - the other (kind of) locals get in amongst it all and have a whale of a time. Last week we saw the shenegans that went on in the kite house at 48 Stevens St, where all the locals hang out and generally plot various ways to rid the beach of tourists. One such (kind of) local is Ewan Jaspan, who normally calls Melbourne home, but since he's a big shot pro kitesurfer now he's of course totally reliant on wind, and spent most of the summer in Perth. As well as being an all round nice guy who loves tourists as much as the next kiteboarder - Ewan's pretty good at letting the kitesurfing community know what he's up to, mostly in the form of making his own video's and posting them online. He's obviously scored himself an SLR of some sorts in this video, which adds some clarity to the otherwise GoPro laden films we're so used to seeing these days.
Check out the video for a glimpse into what it's like to be a (kind of) local at the Perth beaches of Woodies and Safety Bay. For the other side of the story, check back next week and we'll show you what it's like to be a tourist at the infamous Safety Bay.
