WAKSA kitesurfing season wrap up

The WAKSA committee reports...

Well, the wind has died and it's time to pack away the gear for a few months. For a number of reasons,
2010/11 will be remembered as a big season for WAKSA and our members:

·        We started the season facing bans at Mullaloo, and saw off that challenge.

·        We raised over $10,000 for charity through our Redkite downwinder.

·        Through the inaugural Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton race, we drew national and international attention to kitesurfing and Perth.

·        And to top it off, we had a particularly laid back and social Kitestock.

Over the season, WAKSA also represented more than 700 members in dealings with state and local governments, developed networks with community groups and the media, and liaised with other kite surfing bodies under the umbrella of the Australian Kite Surfing Association.

Whilst the season may be over, the committee's work continues. In late April, the WAKSA committee, supported by the WA Sports Federation, is holding a strategic planning session to set some goals and direction for the next few years. Once finalised, we will report back to members on the outcome(s).

On behalf of the committee, thank you for all the support members have given the Association this
season. We look forward to bringing you bigger and better events in season 2011/12.

On a personal note from us here at Seabreeze.com.au, a big thanks to WAKSA for their tireless efforts throughout the summer in doing their best to represent Kitesurfing at it's best.   Every activity in life has it challenges with rogue players who can singlehandedly wreck it for the majority.    WAKSA volunteers have gone in with cool heads and represented kitesurfing in WA very professionaly.     They've organised amazing events and provided support services to the kiters of WA - thanks WAKSA crew!
