WAKSA December News

Red Bull Lighthouse to Leighton

The WAKSA wildcard entry was auctioned off on EBay, all proceeds going to Redkite, was well received. The highest bidder paying $314.99 for the pleasure. Good onya mate!

Get down to Leighton Beach around 1pm to watch the freestyle demo’s or have a go on a trainer kite while you wait for the 110 competitors to cross the line, but don’t get there much after the start at 2.30pm as the record (24min 30 sec) may well be broken this year!

Good luck to all those taking part, we hope you’ve been “holding up the wall” strengthening those legs!

Department of Transport (DoT)

At the latest December committee meeting the DoT were invited to share their plans for the future of the sport that we all love. The finer details will come to light within a few months, however no cause for any major concerns.

The discussion revolved around safety at sea and how best to mitigate the risks we as kiters take when venturing offshore.

WAKSA has also requested annual quarterly statistics on any incidents involving kite surfers. This will help WAKSA and the wider WA kite surfing community identify potential trends that emerge and how best deal with them.

If you have any concerns at all please email us waksa@waksa.org.au

To All Members in the Northern Suburbs of Wanneroo

For an upcoming project involving the Wanneroo Council and WAKSA we require the knowledge and support of members using the beaches from Yanchep to Two Rocks.

If you regularly kite at these beaches we need your input. We will not need a lot of your time and we would appreciate it if you could contact Gerhard by email gmd@vk6gmd.com and leave a telephone number for him to ring back and get you informed what this is all about. We appreciate your help in this important matter.
