WA Kitesurfing Season Opening Newsletter

From your WAKSA crew ? some rays of hope during the bleak season.

While there may not be too much kiting action happening right now we are pleased to report the opposite is true for your new committee. WAKSA is off to a flying start.
For those who may not have heard we now have a committee numbering almost 20. This huge influx of active volunteers means WAKSA will be able to offer a whole lot more to all members this coming season.
One of our first moves was to establish an events sub-committee, ably headed by our experienced events coordinator Jess van den Berg. The events committee has now set in place dedicated teams to look after each event WAKSA will be hosting in the 07/08 season. With each team headed by at least one person who is experienced in coordinating that style of event we believe we have a format, which will deliver some very efficiently, organised activities.
The 2007/08 events calendar is only days away from being published. Dates (including back-up dates) and venues have all been scheduled. It is now just a matter of gathering together final confirmations that the planned dates and places will work. Once you receive your copy of the calendar you will see that all the old favourites are still there along with a few ?new? events which were voted in from the survey.
Thanks; by-the-way; for the enormous response received from survey.

Keeping You Posted

Extra hands on deck has also set in motion a few other things which have been discussed as desirable in the past but have not appeared due to lack of committee time. This news update is one of them. The plan set out by your new committee is to keep ALL members up to speed with what?s happening within WAKSA. The mailout function, built into our website, will be utilised to give a general overview of items of interest to all. It is hoped that this will develop a more ?all-for-one? feel to our WA kiting community and to WAKSA itself.
If you know what we are up to, what is being planned and discussed you can also make a valuable contribution by putting in your 2 cents worth at any time. Emails to waksa@waksa.org.au are automatically distributed to every committee members personal email address. You can be sure your input will get heard.

Kiteloops ? Powered by WAKSA

Another world first initiative by WAKSA will be the introduction this season of local beach user group, group emails. Using your login on the WAKSA website you will be able to register your email address to be linked into a ?loop? related to your local or favourite kite beach. Emails sent to a preset address will be automatically delivered to everyone who has registered for that particular kite-beach. Once registered you will be ?kept in the loop? on all matters of interest posted and discussed by your local kiters.
The benefits of this system are far reaching. The social aspects are obvious but in a more serious vane the 'kiteloop' provides a medium for advising of and discussion of incidents, access issues etc. etc. On this private forum discussions can be undertaken within the confidential circle of local kiters only. Member kiters from any beach can use a WAKSA kiteloop to develop their local community & help protect local beach access.
We are sure that this WAKSA service will become a premium benefit to all members as well as significantly assisting with the effectiveness of WAKSA achieving its goals with regard to safety and beach access.
More specific details of this system will be provided when membership renewal notices are circulated next month. Remember ? renewals are due 1st October !

The WAKSA Trailer

Another new initiative of the coming season will be to acquire a purpose built trailer to house and transport all the WAKSA ?kit?. Our assets were significantly grown last year. Now, with more items on our shopping list for the coming season, we are rapidly gathering more gear than can be efficiently managed by being farmed out to various members houses and sheds as has been the case in the past. The committee would be really pleased to hear from any member who may be able to assist with plans to:
- initially; provide temporary, easy access, central storage for all the gear.
- then; get the trailer design and construction project up and running.
If you, or your business, can help out with expertise and/or offers which may save us time, money or mistakes that would be fantastic. Please send in an email.

Kiting Promotion

A big thanks go to Sue Anderson (secretary) and Jess van den Berg (events coordinator) who recently represented WAKSA at a breakfast hosted by Womens Sport West ? an organisation which promotes the sporting lifestyle to WA's female community. As spokespersons for kiting to an assembly of over 1000 WA schoolgirls I?m sure they would have been an ?extreme?  highlight amongst the many sports represented. Thanks guys.

Hoodies

If the winter chills are biting then why not warm up with a WAKSA KITESTOCK hoody. A few remaining items are still available for purchase. We are currently working on the WAKSA Online Store & order form but in the meantime if you would like to grab one of the last remaining Hoodies; or KITESTOCK stubby holders; send us an email with your phone no. and we will arrange to sort one for you.
As our first ever items of merchandise these Hoodies will fast become collectors items - dont miss out.
