Virgin Kite Jam kicks off in Maui

The Virgin Kite Jam, it's big!
It's one of the biggest parties in kiteboarding, and it's all getting started on the little island of Maui this week.

Maui's pretty small by our standards, there's one main kitesurfing beach, a couple of towns and one long road that goes most of the way around the island. You could go around it in a day if you really wanted to, but why would you want to do that when all the action is in one place! The Virgin Kite Jam is well known for not only it's lavish after parties, but for the huge list of kiting celebrities in attendance every year. It's massive, and one of the coolest concepts ever.

This year, instead of the middle of the Caribbean, they've moved the event to Maui after the enourmous success of the Mai Tai event run by Susi Mai. The unique format of event brings together not only professional riders, but learners and amateurs as well through clinics and lessons over the event. Expect to see a heap more of this style of event in the future, because it brings a heap of new people into the sport and turbo charges their learning curve while being surrounded by so much talent.

In attendance will be Richard Branson himself, plus the Cabrinha crew, Pete himself, Susi Mai, Wakestyle pro Andre Phillip and wakeskate master Jason Stone. That's just a few though, expect to see everyone and anyone from all the big kiteboarding teams based in Maui. The event runs until the 12th of October, so stay tuned to the event facebook page  to see what famous faces show up, who the pro riders are and how it all went down!

Here's a video from the 2011 event in the British Virgin Islands. Imagine getting an invite to this!
