Triple S Kiteboarding Report, Results and Video

The Triple S was almost blown out in final days!
After five days of action, that’s it for this years Triple S event on the Outer Banks in Cape Hatteras. Riders spent the competition battling for over $40,000 USD in prize money across the Sliders, Slicks and Surf (Hence the Triple S name) with Sam Light and Colleen Carroll being announced the overall winners.

Day five of the competition saw riders sizing down to 6m and 7m kites, with challenging surf rolling through from the South West. In the overhead waves riders were resorting to performing a lot of hooked in tricks, with only the best of the best unhooking and throwing huge rotations off the natural kickers on offer in the waves.

Luckily the event format was changed from last year, where riders would have been trying to surf the waves on surfboards. This year the event organizers opted to change the style to use the waves as ramps, a great decision in hindsight! You can be sure it will continue for future Triple S events after being so successful and receiving very positive feedback from riders.

Standouts in the surf were Aaron Hadlow, who won the Surf event on an unmarked kite with the Red Bull logo. After leaving long time sponsors Flexifoil, everyone was excited to see who he’s riding for, or if he’s designing his own line of kites. Rumor has it he’ll be riding North kites, and the unmarked kite did look very much like the new North Vegas, but unfortunately we’ll have to keep waiting to find out!

In the womens surf event Victoria Soloveykina took the prize, with a good mix of unhooked and hooked tricks, showing off what can be done with a tiny kite and huge ramps. Receiving $1000 for the effort, Mary Lacroix Samson won the biggest wipeout award with an insane kiteloop attempt, unhooked off a wave which was way taller than her.

To hear more about the change in the surf, who better to explain it than the winner himself, Aaron Hadlow. After battling for over 40 hours to make the event, he arrived just in time for competition. Watch the interview with him below.

Mark your calendars for next years event, the 10th Annual Triple S in 2015. Dates are May 30th – June 5th, 2015.
