The Super Pump - Winter time inventions from bored kiters...
But contrary to most of these stupid ideas, this one might actually be a stroke of genius...
Check it out! The Super pump. Made by Ezza in NSW with a little inspiration from the Kite repair guy - Moti Levy. While you might say it's just two pumps strapped together, those of you who with a big kite will surely appreciate the ingenious nature of such a contraption.
While of course not looking as professional as the tradition single barrel pumps on offer from the kite companies. You can almost guarantee that in the future we'll see a kite company claim they've invested millions of dollars in R&D on their double barrel (or double banger pump as Ezza put it). It will pump kites 400% faster, 200% harder and with a million percent more style than ever before. But that's then... This is now! And all we've got to hand is duct tape and two old pumps!
Words from the creator:
"It goes great. We used a three way Gardena splitter inside the hose at the junction (about $2) and cable ties over the top. Pretty tight, no leakage. We hacksawed off the handle of one pump and Dremelled it down so it fit like a spine into the other handle. Then drilled and screwed the two together. Finished off with a roll of gaffa. It pumps at greater pressure now through the normal nozzle (scientific test: direct at face) than one pump.
It pumped a seven metre kite up in somewhat less pumps than before (forgot to test how many it took with pre-modification pump, though my hazy memories of the last time I pumped up the 7 as that it took about twice as long!). A physics brain could probably explain the effect of twice as much air pumped through a similar sized nozzle, but its beyond me. I'm pretty pleased with the result"
