Thanks to ex-Tropical Cyclone Fina up north, huge swell has rolled its way down the QLD coast this weekend bringing the first big waves of summer to kite surfers. 

Kitesurfers on the Sunshine and Gold Coasts woke up on Christmas morning to be a 25-30 knot south easterly pumping it's way through the windows, and the rumble of a solid 8ft swell pounding on the beaches. Music to many a kiters ears, but when push came to shove - most stayed on the beach, opting for the safer option of christmas ham and beer. 

Several skilled kitesurfers tackled the conditions without incident however, but only one photo has emerged, courtesy of the BWS team. The single shot was taken at Coolum, just south of Noosa on the Sunshine coast in one of the average waves rolling in throughout the day. The unknown rider, thought to be Ben Wilson himself looks to be in complete control of the situation, despite the extremely challenging conditions. 

As winds dropped on Boxing day and the following days, the points at Noosa and all down the coast were absolutely jam packed with surfers, all itching to get a taste of the first big swell QLD has had this season. Fortunately for the kite surfers, the wind's set to increase again on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday which will clean out the surfers, and allow everyone a ride on the (much smaller) cyclone swell.
