Sail Townsville brings Australia's best kite racers together
Kite Racing makes it's debut at Sail Townsville
If anywhere's going to be windy this time of year, it's up north in Townsville. Thankfully it's business as usual for the North QLD trade winds and the Sail Townsville event will be perfect for kite racing.
Hot favourite for the event is local guy Marvin Baumiester from In the Loop Kiteboarding. With all the hottest new gear under his feet, he's got everything going for him. Oh, and he can ride too! Also tipped to rise through the ranks is Jason Cane, who's been trekking all over the globe to the big races, and gained some very valuable experience from the worlds best kite racers.
Already the racers are on location, training hard and making last minute adjustments to their gear. Interestingly there's going to be quite a level playing field in the front runners, most of them are running hand made carbon boards from TemaVento and all of the race kites are getting pretty similar from the 2014 ranges. Could this be a true test of rider skill? That's how it's supposed to be, let the best racer win!
You can read up on the event here on the KTA website, or stay tuned to the Australian Kite Racing forum for updates from the racers all week long. We'll bring you updates and the results after the event.
