Queensland State Kiteboarding Racing Titles 2011
 
Queensland's first racing titles was held in Brisbane this year, hosted by Surf Connect Wind & Kitesurfing School. It was an honor to have Olympic Official Azam Ismail as our race director. Azam flew all the way over from Singapore, within days of completing his duties at the Youth Olympics. Azam has extensive experience as a windsurfing competitor before he discovered the sport of kiteboarding. Azam loves both sports as much as he loves his family and kids. A very passionate guy.
 
A total of 38 entries were received in the end, in categories of Youth, Division A, Open Mens and Open Ladies. There were 5 entries in the raceboard class and the rest were in the twin tip classes. There were competitors from as far as north as Cairns and Mackay, all the way down to the Gold Coast. We were overwhelmed by the response and shows racing does have a keen interest developing within the sport. Soon we will see it as an Olympic event!
 
The first race was called off due to insufficient wind. Lucky Azam was here for 2 weeks, and the second weekend wind came on for us. Sadly a lot of competitors could not stay for the whole week. Would have been good to see Eunice and Kim who came all the way down from Mackay to show us some raceboard action. In the end, we only managed to run 2 series due to the lack of wind, then the flooding affected safety and water conditions.
 
Each group were divided into heats of maximum 6 per group, to avoid collision and congestion. As this was the first ever official race in Queensland, a windward/leeward course was set to allow easy understanding and easy riding for everyone. Main purpose for this race is to develop the interest in racing.
