Our Pick: Red Bull King of the Air Videos
Wildcard places are limited, and to get a shot at the comp, Red Bull are asking for video submissions. This means every man, woman and child who has dreams of going pro, is submitting a video. The result, more mega-loops than even Ruben Lenten himself can handle.
Lucky for you, we’ve done the hard work for you, and endured hour upon hour of boosts and mega-loops to bring you our Top Three King of the Air Kiteboarding Videos.
Number One: Nico Ettienne
Nico gets bonus points for hucking kiteloops at sunset, boosting him to number one on our pick list. As well as the megaloops, he’s got the whole big air thing down to a tee, and throws hard in freestyle too. Expect to see him at the competition.
Number Two: Oswald Smith
Capetown local Oswald Smith is well seasoned to the ballistic winds expected for the Red Bull King of the Air, as he demonstrates in his submission. 20m high mega-loops, crazy powerful freestyle including a flat 7 that needs to be seen to be believed (because the landing was cut out of it!) and chick woo-ing carves right on the beach. That’s what the King of the Air is all about in 2015, chick woo-ing…
Number Three: Toby Braeuer
You might know Toby as Mr 666 tricks, or as ‘that guy who does the board-off tricks’. Back in the day (like, in 2005) he would have gone far in the King of the Air competition. Where boosting big, flicking your board off and twirling it around your head was considered the pinnacle of the sport. Nowadays, if you’re not hucking megaloops on sub 10m kites, you’re not in the game. Toby’s video is worthy however for the fun factor and awe inspiring twirlies.
