Olympic Kiteboard Course Racing a Step Closer

As part of its campaign to launch kiteboarding onto the Olympic stage in Rio de Janeiro 2016,
the International Kiteboarding Association brings the realization a step closer with a course racing event,
the 2011 Miami Kiteboard Course Racing Regatta, to be held in Miami, FL USA on the 29-30th January.

The event will be held in Biscayne Bay, Miami, near the same venue as the Rolex Miami OCR (Olympic Classes Regatta), running on January 23 - 29, 2011, and is being used as a great opportunity to demonstrate the sport to ISAF (International Sailing Federation) and Sailing judges from around the world; over 50 Nations and 700 athletes will converge in Southern Florida, bringing the largest national diversity in the 21 years of hosting the OCR in Miami.

Kiteboard course racing formats proposed by the IKA for Olympic racing include; Fleet racing, Speedway - a format which can be run in various styles, from round robin to classic speed format and the new SuperX, which is a slalom format with double knock out system.
