More than just insurance - WAKSA Speaks out

WAKSA speaks out about their benefits...
When trouble stirs in paradise, the guys from WAKSA are first on the scene to help out, whether it’s your beach being threatened, an accident occurring or the promotion of safe kiteboarding, WAKSA and Kiteboarding Australia membership is more than just insurance.

This was made more apparent by a post this week by WAKSA (Western Australia Kite Surfing Association) President Darren S. Ellis. Highlighting the benefits of an association such as WAKSA (and for that matter, the other states counterparts: SAKSA, NSWKBA, KBV, TKSA, KAQ), Mr Ellis also touched on the reason this debate is happening in the first place. The fact there is a cheaper insurance policy available.

We’re not going to get into the specifics of what’s better and what you should purchase, but we’ll go as far as saying you should definitely have insurance of some kind. That’s beside the point though, joining your local kiteboarding association is more than just insurance as Darren explains:

“Originally WAKSA was founded to promote safe kite boarding practices and provide a single contact point for state and local government to ensure beach access. This has been extended to work with all Kite Boarding stakeholders where possible to progress our sport. Recent projects including the Kite Boarding Be Safe campaign with the Department of Sport and recreation (DSR) and Surf Life Saving WA is one such example. Other efforts can’t be discussed openly due to commercial or personal sensitivities.

As the sport developed, so has the need for everyone to be on the same page. We are very small in number relative to other sports and the need for a common clear voice is vital. Like all sports we have a national body (KA) and local state bodies (WAKSA, SAKSA, NSWKBA, KBV, TKSA, KAQ etc ..). Our national body is designed to deliver more than insurance see www.aksa.com.au/ . While insurance is built into the membership and it has been the reason many people have joined in the past, I don’t see it as the sole reason for the future.”
