Meet the next world kitesurfing champion - he's from Noosa!
Watch this space, by Christmas time we'll be talking about how well Keahi De Aboitiz was riding all year - all the way to the world tour win in December on the Gold Coast.
It hasn't happened yet - but trust us, he'll win. Just take one look at the event footage from the last three PKRA wave events and Keahi is a clear standout rider, capable of riding in any conditions with no straps - oozing style and never putting a foot wrong. Keahi's a nice guy too - and it shows in his riding, you'll never see him cut you off or snake you're wave. He does catch about five waves for each one you catch, but that's because he's fast; real fast.
Fresh off the plane from his Australian Freestyle championship win in Alva beach, QLD - Keahi has time for a quick relax, before he heads off to the next PKRA stop in Cabarete during June. Winning the freestyle nationals was a little bit surprising - Keahi has barely touched a twintip in the last 6 months, but he grabbed one off the rack, jumped on a plane to Alva and barely missed a trick all weekend. It's this consistent style and skill that makes Keahi stand out from the crowd.
One of the best things about kitesurfing for Keahi is the travelling, he says its a bit of a trek to get to some places, but it's worth it when he finds new spots, or gets to session existing locations he's never ridden before. You might remember the nasty session he had in WA a few months ago - where they trashed a jetski and a couple of kites. This is what he's talking about, pushing his riding to the limits.
To meet the man, and see a little sample of his riding - check out the video below. It's got a bit of everything in there.
