Mauricio Abreu hits Brisbane to show off new Slingshot Gear
Last time Mauricio was in QLD... 2002
The aim of the trip was to show off the new Slingshot kites and boards - with the new RPM's proving to be extremely popular, as were the new Joint bindings (or Crocs as the boys called them). In between handing out kites to demo, Mauricio put on a great show for the peanut gallery when he jumped on a wake skate and sessioned the shallow pools in between sand bars at low tide. His experience and natural talent really shone through considering he hadn't stepped on a wake skate in over a year; the photographers were stoked with the photo's from such a strange landscape.
This hasn't been the first time Mauricio's been down under, and to Brisbane in fact. Photographer Ian Osborne remembers last time the pro visited:
"I've found some photos from the last time Mauricio visited Brisbane (Wellington Pt) when he rode for Wipika and there was a Kiteshop at Wello called Kitehaven all back on the 25th of October 2002!!
Mauricio broke his long Wipika Park (Snowboard shape) twintip so he cut the ends off making the board under a metre long and hooked around on his 15m kite with pulley bar, how times have changed..."
Mauricio and the Slingshot crew are currently on their way up and down the east coast visiting the larger Slingshot dealers. Check the Slingshot Oz Facebook for more details, or contact your local Slingshot Kiteboarding dealer for the dates and time's they'll be there.
Check out the board in question below - and compare that with the new Slingshot range for 2012... How times have changed!
