Locals at New Caledonia - Part II

Thurday 6th Dec

The Day started slowly with a ten thirty skippers meeting anouncing a delay due to the lack of wind. This was short lived, with the wind picking up after lunch to a kitable 10 to 13 knots. This, although light, allowed the running of the 'Nissan Course Race'.

All the kiters pumped up their biggest kites for what was to be a spectacular event.

In this light condition, choosing the right equipment is critical, with some riders sailing with fifteen meter kites and surfboards.

The course consisted of two laps, crossing from the Meridien Beach to a boat about six kilometers offshore.
The men (22 riders) whent out first, followed 10 minutes after by the women (8 riders). The start line proved to be quite difficult with every rider searching for clean air, but once the horn sounded, and the kites dived, the riders slowly disperced.

In the mens division:

1. Olivier Dansin (Nc)
2. Mickael Fernandez (Fr) (2004 World Champion)
3. Maxime Landreau (Nc)
4. Keahi De Aboitez (Aus) - using he's surfboard and he's Cabrinha 10m switchblade3.

In the womens division:

1. Kristine Boeses (Ger) (three times world champion)
2. Marine Sudre (Aus)- using the 2006 underground twintip (1.35) and Cabrinha 12m SB2.
3. Ainhoa Garcia (Spa)

Next up... the 'Picnic Wave event'!
