Liam Whaley steals win from Zoon and Hadlow in the VKWC
Blue water, butter flat water, and pretty girls with sand stuck to their butts. Must be Venezuela! Held behind a sandbar in one of the best locations ever seen for a freestyle round of the world tour, this stop was jam packed with action from the worlds best freestyle riders.
Conditions were perfect for 11m kites, allowing the drones to get airborne and capture some spectacular footage, adding to the already impressive shots being nabbed by the VKWC photographers in the water. Check out the highlights clip from the final day of freestyle below to see!
“I like doubles, so that’s definitely good for me, too much of the flipping stuff; it’s not my kind” Said Zoon before the final heat. His smooth (and high!) double handlepasses, both front and backside weren’t a match for Whaleys inverted moves. You’ve never seen a front mobe until you watch Whaleys in the video below!
Whaley’s coming off the back of a win at the previous VKWC event in Dakhla too, making him the one to chase throughout the freestyle season this year. Running Cabrinha Chaos kites instead of their new FX, Whaley is showing that there’s still a place for a thoroughbred freestyle kite in the Cabrinha range, and that it can do more than just keep up with the classics.
The next stop for the VKWC is the desert landscape of Tarifa, Spain in July. Riders are already heading over there to train in the gusty, strong winds that the spot is so famous for, so look out for their training vids in the leadup!
